Characteristics: Deep ruby color, intense aromas of rose and ripe red fruit, spices like pepper, leather notes. Full bodied taste with silky tannins and a long aftertaste.
Gastronomic aspects: Perfect with red meat, grilled or cooked, lamb, meat with red spicy sauces.
Serving temperature: 18 degrees
Type of vinification - maturing: Classic red fermentation. It is aged for 24 months in new oak barrel and continues to mature in the bottle for six months. It can be aged for ten years at least.
The new red grape variety was created according to Thanassis Papaioannou's standards and named after him, by researcher Pantelis Zamanidis and the Vine Institute of Athens. It is a cross variety with high resistance to cold, drought and fungal diseases. Its parents are Odeski tshiorni (Cabernet Sauvignon x Alicante Bouschet) and Gewürztraminer. This new variety will be used for the production of dry aromatic red wines, semi-sweet and sweet red wines.
